Course Content
Introductory results on difference equations. Difference equations and linear differential equation with costant coefficient. Stability of solutions. Some discrete models of economy. Multistep methods for differential equations. Stiff problem and regions of absolute method stability. Anlaysis of linear stability for continuous and discrete systems. Some models of population dynamics. Positive matrices. Nonlinear systems. Linearization. Perron-Frobenius theorem and its applications.
Knowledge acquired:
Basic numerical methods, linear algebra, functions of several variables.
Competence acquired:
Quantitative and qualitative treatment of models described by difference and linear ordinary differential equations. Matrix functions.
Skills acquired (at the end of the course):
Ability of simulating properly, on a computer, continuous and discrete dynamical systems.
